Post by oafumPost by Don OceanPost by oafumPost by unknownI have a nine year old horizontaltappangasfurnacewith electronic
ignition. I have two main issues. Bear in mind i replaced the
thermostat last year and the flame sensor.
Issue #1 Thefurnacewon't ignite. The main blower runs (and is
problem #2 as it won't shut off) There is a steady red light on the
control board but the yellow light doesn't ever flicker. I don't hear
the other blower evaculate any gases and the igniter doesnt glow.
There is no gas odor. I have turned on and off the main power to the
furnaceand nothing. I replaced the batteries in the thermostat and i
do have gas supplied as my gas water heater works fine.
Is it possible that a broken ignitor is the issue? If the igniter
doesn't work, would the system act the way its acting now? I cleared
out any cob or spider webs from the plenum and other orifices.
Issue #2 The main blower won't shut off. I have banged on the fan
limit switch housing to no avail.
Any guidance would be helpful.
THanks

You haven't banged on it hard enough or with a big enough hammer. You
need to really whack the shit out of it. Better yet, give the hammer
to your wife and have her whack the shit out of you for endangering
your families' life. Moron.- Hide quoted text -

Ok i am a moron - i am also a moron who just got laid off and have no
money to pay for a pro. Either i get thisfurnacegoing on my own or i
have to use the oven to heat my home through the winter or until i
find work.
Perhaps you should apply for a job/training in the HVAC field.
We are really busy and shorthanded repairing messes that someone else
made in their own homes. ThatFurnacein your home is a bomb waiting for
the right trigger. Your family will be the victims. Just because your
out of work is no damned excuse to endanger yourself, family and
neighbors. Call the state for Heat and repair assistance.. or walk the
streets for aluminum cans. Hold up a liquor store, its much safer then
what you contemplate. Maybe you could trade your computer off for the
needed repairs.

It seems to me that all you guys who say it's too dangerous to work on
your own furnace have a pretty serious problem. You think what you do
is rocket science.
In some cases it it is.. i did some work years back on the HVAC system
on Apollo. ;-p You screw up on that Gas furnace and you just may travel
even further then Apollo did.
Use the scare tactics if you need to get business
Post by oafumthat way. I don't believe you.
I do hope you leave behind a gorgeous widow for us to console after your
passing.
And no one with half a brain should
Post by oafumeither. What i have seen is pretty straight forward modular systems
that DON"T need a self-important HVAC man to deal with. I won't touch
the gas valve because that does scare me. But all the other systems?
Any half-as sed do it yourselfer can tackle much of this. I should
rob a liquor store to pay for heat for my family? I think not.
So on top of being a know it all.. your lazy Too?
What
Post by oafumi do think is theft is the amount HVAC people charge for their so
called service calls. I replaced most of the safety switchs and
ultimately the control board for a total of $170.00 bucks.
I am amazed that you could buy them.. Our state enforces sales only to
folks that have passed the state exam and have a valid license, Bond and
large mandatory liability insurance policy. Kind of makes sense when
you note that modern equiptment is quite complex. Some of the newer
stuff is incorporated into the smart homes systems and can be accessed
from anywhere in the world by laptop internet etc. Also we are not
allowed to kludge a job or to use used parts. I would not only pay
through the nose for a fucked job..But I would feel bad about anyone
getting hurt or killed. Thankfully I don't know the family you are
putting at risk.
The tech
Post by oafumwho ultimately fixed my mother's furnace, including FINALLY replacing
the control board (which turned out NOT to be the problem) made 4
service calls and and charged her $400 bucks.
Apparently you either are misinformed or you managed to get the worst of
the worst. Cheap chiselers tend to draw more of their kind..So it is
reasonable to assume that that is what happened.
I went and ONLY changed
Post by oafumthe hi-limit switch and scraped down the flame sensor and she has heat
- after changing back to the original control board.
What is that strange ticking sound????? ;-(
Might I inquire as to why you are answering a post that is almost a
month old? Does this mean that you took a month to figure out how to
chisel a cheap repair? ;-p
Steve.. Is this fellow one of your reject customers.. ? ;-)
Post by oafumGo sell you bomb rhetoric to some other "mark".
Perhaps you would like a list of HVAC technicians that have either been
hurt or killed working on such equipment. Better yet..Take a look at how
many families have had terrible consequences from the explosion or fire
from their mal operating furnace. My Liability insurance just on the
technicians is staggering. Actually I make less per job now then I did
10 years ago, due to all of the necessary added costs of insurance,
Annual mandatory education upgrades etc. Like I said.. If you such a
genius.. We can use you in the Industry. The pay is good, but it
requires 24 hour a day calls and 365 days a year service. And that means
when its is hotter then Hell and when the Snow is up to your shoulders
and the #@@!! van is stuck or won't start because it is -26ºF and Granny
Smith is freezing in her home 18 miles out on a country road. And we
won't hear you whining that your unemployed...Ever! We don't need your
business because we want some tome to go fishing once in a while. And
its nice for someone to reintroduce you to the little lady from time to
time.
